Yep, we switched to DirectTV. It cost us to get out of the never-ending contract, but it will be worth it. A small taste of my DISH angst? I had to call three times before I finally was able to cancel my service. Twice I was on hold (on my cell phone no less) for 10 minutes, the other time, 15 before a person picked up my call. Then when someone actually answered, it was nearly impossible to understand them. And I’m not talking about a thick accent. I’m talking about that drone call service representatives have to fight so hard against. It’s the “ihavesaidthisonemilliontimesandidon’tevenhavetothinkaboutitwhatcanidoforyou” drone that if said with enough apathy and at just the right speed, can be utterly indecipherable. And of course, once I explained what it is I want, to cancel my service, I had to attempt to hear the second chapter of “ihavesaidthisonemilliontimesandidon’tevenhavetothinkaboutitwhatcanidoforyou,” before she finally transfers me to another department. Yes, where I have to go through the whole thing all over again.
So yes, the $160 it cost for us to get out of that cycle of insanity was worth it. On Monday DirectTV will come out and install our new system. I can only hope that our experience with DTV will be infinitely better than the one we had with DISH.
I sleep in this apartment for 4 more night. Four more nights and I am on the road heading home. This is good because the air mattress I’ve been sleeping on for the last four months has to be blown up every night now before I hit the hay, and usually once in the middle of the night. I should be in my own bed Sunday night. I cannot wait. It goes without saying, but still. The next three days are going to be busy getting ready. I just hope I can finish the decreases on my gussets before we head out.

I must go to sleep, but I am so happy to hear you’re heading home. That will be a great relief for you, I’m sure. Even the best air mattress could not compare to home.
Ugh, and watch your mail/bank account for more DISH charges! After we “cancelled” our account, it took 3 months and six more calls to finally get it cancelled! Oy. Take my advice–if you ever have to call back to yell about it, ask for a supervisor!
Anyway, we heart DirecTV.
YAY REAL BED!
I second fefferknits, YEY REAL BED!
You do know there is snow in the forecast? It’s to hit the Seattle area on Friday…and just be super cold (20s at night) and kinda miserable during the day (and in the mid 30s!) by Saturday…so be careful.
Enjoy the last few nights in San Diego. I know I’m probably the only one who is still jealous. I would do anything for a 6 month “vacation”.
Have a safe trip back. Wish I could’ve seen you while you were close. It will probably be 6 more years before I am able to get away alone again
Oh well. Such is life with little ones. Charlie is doing better – just got prevacid called in today. So hopefully that will be the trick. Talk to you soon.
That is so exciting that you’re almost home. How awesome! Your back must be killing you having to sleep on an air mattress for that length of time.
Good luck with DirecTV
