That is how many hours in a row, I slept last night. I haven’t done that for weeks. I hope I can do it again tonight. I need a few nights in a row of nine hours to catch up. Then I won’t be on the verge of tears or homicidal rage. When I think about new parents, specifically mothers, and how little sleep they get, it’s amazing to me that so many kids make it through their first few years.
Yesterday I got on the freeway (!) and drove to Carlsbad to see my parents’ new place. It’s very nice. Then my mom drove me up the 101 along Carlsbad and (I think). That was really pretty, the ocean and the little shops and the beautiful beach front homes. It’s a really nice place to go and get away. There’s a meditation garden there about a block from The Black Sheep yarn shop.
I’ve learned to not have specific expectations when going to yarn shops – some may not have sock yarn, some may not carry a certain brand that I favor. Some might not have the colors I prefer. Some may not have a lot of inventory! But The Black Sheep – wow! The owner had so much yarn. I really couldn’t believe the inventory. She had Debbie Bliss, Colinette, Louisa Harding, Noro, Sublime, and lots of other brands. Beautiful colors. Beautiful samples. We’ll definitely be going back there (especially after using the bathroom and not buying anything. But I didn’t bring my patterns and we decided last minute to go there).
Then the ‘rents took me to this fish place on the beach, Harbor Fish Cafe. It was really good. I hope to go back there – Husband can get the burger. I want the fish and chips again! There was this cute, fat little squirrel who came right up under the tables and grabbed fallen food right from under our feet, then he scurried away to eat. He reminded me of a ballsier Templeton the Rat.
Last night I finally hit the pool with Husband. I need to get a new swim suit. I got one a few months ago but yesterday was the first time I got to use it and I don’t like it at all. Anyway, the pool is really nice. It felt good to swim again.
Today my mom is coming over to the apartment and we’ll either sit and knit or we’ll go downtown. Maybe I’ll take her to the base NEX. Tonight we’ll kick the guys’ butts playing Spades and eat some pizza.
A quick knit update: the baby blanket I’m making up as I go is actually looking pretty good. I realized that I need to knit or crochet the border after I knit the blanket. Eh, I’m learning. Always learning when I knit.
I also had to frog the Fleece Artist Jaywalker socks – they were HUGE. I had to soak it, dry it and re-wind it which meant that I had to start the socks with another yarn (I wanted a pair started for the trip). I started Jaywalkers with Socks that Rock Mediumweight in Farmhouse. I’m afraid these might be too big too – but they’ll be comfy house socks if they are.
Kay. I’m going to go swim now. Peace out yo.

Have fun swimming!
I had to laugh when you called the squirrel Templeton. I’m reading Jack Charlotte’s Web at night and I love that character. Yes kids only survive the first year because they can’t talk back yet. Sleep deprivation makes you pretty crazy. At least it does me. Sounds like you are having a great time. I got a really nice suit this year at Kohls. At least I liked it. You could try there. (plus it wasn’t all that pricey)
