Here is what I’ve finished in the last six months:
Crochet Lap Throw in Caron Simply Soft. It took me four years to complete. Yes, four years. But see, I started crocheting and then I really wanted to learn how to knit and once I learned how to knit - cables and socks and baby sweaters and entrelac - crocheting took a backseat; as in the trunk of a 17 passenger van.

It’s just single crochet, double crochet. Of course, I couldn’t remember that when I picked it up after leaving it to hibernate for 18 months and, oh yeah! What hook size did i use? Whoops! Originally, my intention was for it to be twin-bedspread sized but I just needed it to be completed. So it’s 52″x 34″. Not bad for lounging in the family room.
Here are my WIPs:
I knitted my first Chevron Scarf by Joelle Hoverson, from her book, Last Minute Knitted Gifts, using BMFA Socks that Rock Mediumweight in Watermelon Tourmaline and Titania colorways. The picture is in the banner. I’m very proud of it. I decided to give that one away as a birthday present and so I picked up BMFA STRMW in Watermelon Tourmaline and Farmhouse. Having just knitted this scarf, I’m not very motivated to get this finished up (not to mention, summer is approaching and scarves will be a moot point), but it’s a great project to have on a ferry ride, waiting in line or for an appointment, or watching TV. Once you have the pattern down, it’s pretty mindless and it’s very fun to watch how the colors come together.
Here is the beginning of the second Chevron Scarf (the photograph is not very good):

These colors (Farmhouse and Watermelon Tourmaline) together feel to me more 60’s, patchwork, hippy-ish than the Titania and Watermelon Tournaline. This is only my opinion. They are still pretty, but there was a sophistication in the first scarf that isn’t present in this one. I will finish it and I will wear it because never mind the feeling I get, it’s still incredibly soft and pretty.
I’ve started the Falling Leaves Scarf by Katy Wight in Sublime Yarns Cashmere Merino Silk Aran. This yarn is so soft. I’m using the Sage colorway. I know, another scarf - at the beginning of summer.

This isn’t blocked and the picture stinks, so it’s hard to tell what the pattern really looks like, but this is a gist. I need to practice taking shots again.
I also started Clementine by Michele Rose Orne from Interweave Knits Magazine, Spring 2007. I’m using Fiesta La Luz in Champagne, 100% mulberry silk. I started it and then I put it away. It’s not been hard to knit, I just….I dunno, stopped.

Finally, I’m still working on my first pair of Monkey Socks by Cookie A. I’m using Pigeon Roof Studios fingering weight superwash merino in Punk.

I am disappointed because I have a great pattern to work with and a great yarn, but the two don’t go together well. The yarn is too busy for this pattern - the pattern lost in the variegation which is sad. But I’m still going to finish them and wear them proudly and next time, I’ll know better to use either a solid or very lightly variegated yarn.
And that’s what’s on my needles. I’m going to keep an “on my needles” page (static page at top). I’ll still post here, but it’s an easy way to find my projects (should you want to), rather than wading through post after post.
I have a ton of projects in my queue in Ravelry and I already have the yarn for each. Future projects include:
- Ribbons Blanket by Evelyn A. Clark (for my friend Nicole who is pregnant) (Fantasy yarn)
- Doctor’s Bag from the book, Knit 2 Together by Tracey Ullman and Mel Clark (Manos yarn)
- Mr. Greenjeans for moi by Amy Swenson (Cascade 220 - first Cascade 220 project for me)!
- Tuscany by Amy R. Singer from her book, No More Sheep for You
(Louisa Harding Grace) - The Shetland Triange by Evelyn A. Clark (Debbie Bliss Pure Silk)
- Nantucket Jacket by Norah Gaughan, Interweave Knits Magazine, Winter 2006 (Debbie Bliss Rialto - concerned about the weight of this yarn - too light??)
- Two more February Baby Sweaters by Elizabeth Zimmerman (Cascade Sierra)
Now you’re all updated!
