Okay, I just completed my first-ever felted bag, the clutch from One Skein. It’s too cute. But, my question is, there’s all this stringy hairy stuff on the bag – from the felting – how do I take care of that? I was just going to take the flat edge of the scissors and snip snip snip, but I don’t want to do anything to mess up the bag. How do you felters out there take care of this? I’ll post pictures after it’s dried and I’ve done the embellishment. (I used Lamb’s Pride Bulky in Wild Violet. And it really did only take one skein. I’m doing a pink one next. Both will go with the dress to my older nieces).

I’ve felted quite a few bags and love the results. I usually use a non machine washable wool or a felting yarn such as Patons Woolbale or alpaca I spin myself.
I haven’t used Lambs Pride but as a wool/ mohair blend it will shed a little after felting. I’ve read several articles which suggest brushing or shaving your felted item once dried to rid yourself of the loose fibres. Hope this helps. Am looking forward to seeing your photos.
Best regards.
I made the felted Fuzzy Feet with Lamb’s pride too, and got a lot of that hairy stuff (it’s from the mohair content). I got rid of it with one of those “sweater shavers”, but scissors should work fine too, and they won’t hurt it any.
I do exactly that, take some scissors and just shave off whatever fuzz you don’t like. I’ve tried using a sweater shaver, and regular razor, which I didn’t find worked as well as just using scissors. Congrats on your first felted project! ‘Tis fun, indeed!
Hi Tana,
I use the scissor snip technique as well……And if I am really bored I just pull off any little pilling I see by hand.
Glad your felting worked,
~Kirsten
I have a sweater shaver thingy – I can probably bring it over on Monday. I may require reminding
I’m glad we got to sit and knit today!
